Care urged as subzero temperatures and frost forecast

It is not exactly an Arctic vortex but Irish motorists have been urged to take care on the roads tonight and tomorrow as temperatures are set to fall as low as -3°C. “Take care on roads as frost and icy patches forecast tonight and Saturday,” the Road Safety Authority tweeted this evening.

Met Éireann has forecast a cold and frosty night with some showers in the west and northwest falling as rain and sleet.It has warned of icy stretches on untreated roads as lowest temperatures of 1°C to -3°C forecast. It has also forecast mist and fog with some pockets of freezing fog possible.

Tomorrow will remain cool at 4°C to 6°C in most areas. Subzero temperatures will return on Saturday night with lows of 0 to -3°C. The coldest weather will be in the north and east, it said. It has forecast widespread frost and icy patches early on Saturday night. However the cold weather will improve by Sunday with highest temperatures of 6°C - 9°C degrees and with lows on Sunday night of close to zero degrees.
