Man Charged in Connection with Strandhill Road Seige
A man was brought before a special sitting of Sligo district court last Monday morning, charged in connection with the armed seige of a house on the Strandhill Road in Sligo at the weekend.
Michael O Connor, aged 30, of Nolmar, Scardenmore, Strandhill Road, Sligo, was charged with possession of a single barrelled shotgun with intent to endanger life at Scardenmore on December 28 (Saturday).The court was told that he had replied that he had nothing to say when he was charged.Superintendent Mary Murray asked for the accused to be remanded in custody to appear at Harristown court (which is attached to Castlerea prison) on January 3.She said she wanted him remanded in custody as she considered him a flight risk, as he was unemployed, homeless and had no family ties.
Solicitor for the accused Mark Mullaney said there was no application for bail.At the request of Mr Mullaney, Judge Kevin Kilrane ordered that the accused be medically assessed while in Castlerea prison, to which he remanded him to appear at Harristown court.He also granted legal aid.
