Surfs Up - Perfect Weather to Capture the Waves

Surfs up: perfect weather to capture the waves

Most people scurry indoors when Met Eireann issues a severe weather warning. But for photographer Christian McLeod, its time to hit the surf. The 21-year-old student gets his camera into its weatherproof gear and heads for the waves off Mullaghmore, Co Sligo.

"It can be pretty hairy out there on a jet ski trying to get the best surfing pictures, but there is a huge thrill in it," says Christian, whose snap of Irelands largest ever wave last year went global. "That was almost 70ft tall, so that was a biggie, and we might see some like that over the next few days."

The Sligo coast has got a top billing from the worlds leading surfers in recent years. Met Eireann issued an Orange alert overnight and for today with high seas and winds of up to 120kph.

"Well take a look at that one, but there appears to be a bigger surge next Sunday and Monday, so many surfers are looking at going out then," says Christian.
