Sligo Rovers 2014 Fixtures Released

Sligo Rovers 2014 Fixtures AnnouncedSligo Rovers will be at home to Athlone Town on Saturday 8 March 2014, our first match of the new league season. The Bit o Red will take on Mick Cookes promoted side in The Showgrounds. Rovers will then be away to Bray Wanderers in the Carlisle Grounds the following week.

Dundalk visit The Showgrounds on Saturday 22 March followed by a trip to Tallaght Stadium on March 28th to play Shamrock Rovers. The season concludes at home to St Patricks Athletic on Friday 24 October.

Manager Ian Baraclough said its nice to be at home to start the season. I think Athlone will be delighted with facing the FAI Cup winners on their return to the top flight. It is certainly an interesting fixture. Mick Cooke is a manager that I have come up against on several occasions over the last two years. Im sure he will build a competitive squad and it will be a challenge on the opening day he will be excited about. One that will test us judging on the teams managed by Mick that we have faced before.

Its going to produce a big crowd from both sets of supporters and its going to be a good occasion to start our league season with.

We dont pinpoint each fixture and try to second guess what it will produce. Each fixture will provide its own difficulties. There are no easy fixtures over 33 games, it doesnt matter which team you face. When the fixtures come out it does feel that bit closer because you are talking about the new seaaon and you start to get your mind on it again. The Christmas period is upon us and the players will enjoy their break but also be preparing already for the six weeks of pre-season that will follow in January.

Its nice to be at home to start the season. I think Athlone will be delighted with facing the FAI Cup winners on their return to the top flight.
